VARIABLES DEL HÁBITAT DE PASTIZAL ASOCIADAS A LA DENSIDAD DE AVES GRANÍVORAS EN MALPAÍS, DURANGO, MÉXICO

Grassland birds constitute the group that has decreased its populations most in North America. Various studies suggest that there are key variables of this habitat that limit their abundance and distribution. In January 2013, bird censuses were carried out through a characterization of the vegetation structure and the availability of seeds in the soil were estimated. Through generalized linear models the variables that predict density of seven grassland bird species were determined. All the variables were included in at least one model of one of these species. The seed biomass was an important predicting variable individually or in interaction with other variables, highlighting the case of Spizella pallida and Ammodramus savannarum. For the first time the food availability is included as a variable in studies of habitat association in the hibernation area of these birds in México. This information can be used in the strategies of conservation and management of these species and their habitats.Las aves de pastizal constituyen el grupo que más ha disminuido sus poblaciones en Norteamérica. Diversos estudios sugieren que existen variables clave de este hábitat que limitan la abundancia y distribución. En enero de 2013 se efectuaron censos de aves, mediante una caracterización de la estructura de la vegetación y se estimó la disponibilidad de semillas en el suelo. A través de modelos lineales generalizados se determinaron las variables predictoras de la densidad de siete especies de aves de pastizal. Todas las variables fueron incluidas en al menos un modelo de alguna de estas especies. La biomasa de semillas fue una variable predictora importante de manera individual o en interacción con otras variables, destacando el caso de Spizella pallida y Ammodramus savannarum. Por primera vez se incluye la disponibilidad de alimento como una variable en estudios de asociación del hábitat en el área de invernación de estas aves en México.
