Diversidad de aves de un paisaje semiárido del Altiplano Mexicano

Objective: To evaluate the bird diversity in the El Llano region in Aguascalientes, central part of the Mexican Altiplano, a region that has been transformed into grasslands and agricultural areas. Design/methodology/approach: From January 2010 to March 2012, a bird fauna inventory was carried out through transects with counting points within different areas with different land use in the region. Results: A total of 166 bird species were recorded, the greatest species richness was terrestrial (136), and the rest were of aquatic and underwater habits (30). Of the total species, seven are listed under some risk status and two are endemic to Mexico. Limitations on study/implications: There are other habitats around this region that can also serve as areas of movement and shelter for birds and have not yet been studied. Findings/conclusions: The greatest diversity was observed in thickets, nopal orchards and yuccas patches, and oak forest. Bird diversity recorded in this region suggests that this area represents an important source of food resources, nesting area by resident species, as well as a transit site for migratory species.Objetivo: Evaluar la diversidad de aves en la región de El Llano en Aguascalientes, parte central del Altiplano Mexicano, una región que ha sido transformada en pastizales y zonas agrícolas. Diseño/metodología/aproximación: De enero de 2010 a marzo de 2012 se realizó un inventario avifaunístico a través de recorridos con puntos de conteo dentro de diferentes áreas con distinto uso de suelo en de la región. Resultados: Se registraron un total de 166 especies de aves, la mayor riqueza de especies fue terrestre (136), y el resto fueron de hábitos acuáticos y subacuáticos (30). Del total de especies, siete están enlistadas bajo algún estatus de riesgo y dos son endémicas de México. La mayor diversidad se observó en los matorrales, nopaleras e izotales, y encinares. Limitaciones del estudio/implicaciones: Existen otros hábitats a los alrededores de esta región que pueden servir también como zonas de desplazamiento y refugio para las aves y que aún no han sido estudiados. Hallazgos/conclusiones: La diversidad de aves registrada en esta región sugiere que esta área representa una fuente importante de recursos alimenticios, espacio de anidación para especies residentes, así como sitio de paso para especies migratorias
