The Skowhegan School in Madison this summer celebrates its 50th anniversary with alumni exhibitions at Colby College, the Farnsworth Museum, the Portland Museum of Art and elsewhere. The Skowhegan School was founded in 1946 by sculptor Sidny Simon and painters Willard Cummings, Charles Cutler and Henry Varnum Poor on the Cummings Family\u27s 160-acre chicken farm overlooking Lake Wesserunsett in Madison. The school is headquartered in New York City and receives funding from some of the big names in American art circles. The school brings 65 of the country\u27s best young artists to its campus each summer to work intensively and independently under the critical eyes of a changing faculty of mature artists. Details
