News piece on the turf battle over the establishment of a radiation therapy center in York County. One group, including York Hospital in York, Goodall Hospital in Sanford and Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, N.H., have local permits for a site in Wells and have applied for state approval to build such a facility. A second group, including Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford and Maine Medical Center in Portland, is continuing a search for a building site in Wells after the first didn\u27t meet zoning requirements. About half the 958 cancer patients in York County in 2000 received radiation treatments, most in Portland. A new radiation therapy center would cost about $6 million to build and would generate $2.7 million a year in net revenue. State officials are not likely to approve two such facilities to serve the same area and are expected to ask the two groups to work out their differences
