As the first step in the study on the kinetics of steelmaking reaction, diffusion coefficients of silicon in molten Fe-C alloy (Carbon-saturated) were determined between 1,400° and 1,600℃. The experimental results were expressed by the following relation : [numerical formula] That is, diffusion coefficient D between 14,00° and 1,600℃ was 0.9~1.5×10^cm^2/sec ; D increased with the rise of temperature, the temperature coefficient being considerably small ; the activation energy was about 10,200 cal/g-atom. The concentration of carbon changed as the diffusion of silicon proceeded, in parallel with the value of the solubility limit of carbon in molten Fe-Si alloy
