An archive of the Magrath Trading Store News.The University of Lethbridge Library received permission from the Wes Balderson to digitize and display this content.MAGRATH NEWS Published Weekly Since 1932 by The Magrath Trading Company 50e Feb “Bridal Terrorism” A spirit of terrorism slowly descended last week upon Magrath as the Cultural Arts Society presented their annual dinner theatre Friday and Saturday evenings at the Magrath United Church which featured a sumptuous roast beef plate, after which patrons were treated to a play entided “Bridal Terrorism”. Both nights were sold out. The cast performed on Wednesday as a dress rehearsal. Vinnie and Chris Jensen and their staff executed their typical coup de maitre with the banquet and dessert delights. Truly a culinary triumph, an Epicurean adventure. Making her Directorial debut was Davilyn Atwood. For six weeks she cajoled, taunted, and teased her one-time cast of misfits, to come up with a triumph worthy of a Golden Globe award for Best New Artist in a Directing Role. We hope this is not just a one time shot-in-the-dark event for this up and coming rising star. We need you again, Davilyn, in another year. The cast may have started as misfits, but finally gelled together as an acting troupe. Leanne Sabey starred as May, the pretentious Bride, determined to get her Groom by sundown; Larry Murray shines as the Victim Groom (is that an omen for all grooms?); Sandi McClung shows off as the ever-a- Mother, never-a-Mother-in-Law; Senta Gast plays Gina, the Bride s sister; Randy Leavitt explores the role of Gina’s husband; Bob Mothersell expands his talents in posing as Judge Terry Windship; Scott Bogdan steals the show (according to some) as the silent jogger observing the comings and going? of the Pretend Wedding. We thank those who made it all possible with thir work off stage: Wes Murphy took care of the lighting and sound; Nikki Bogdan and Tanis Beazer were in the Green Room as makeup artists; Barb Broadhead was in charge of hair stylings; Shirley Jensen for hall decorations and Laurel Benntert and Kevin Lauder for stage and set decorations. Thanks also to Scott and Falene Wolsey for supplying the after-the-play party for the cast and volunteers. Dustin, who is leading the calf roping in District One this season; and is third in steer wrestling and sixth in the team roping, was selected by a vote of his fellow Wrangler All­Star team members. Mandel earned his position on the all-star rodeo team based on leadership qualities, academic eligibility and athletic achievements. High school rodeo has come a long way since its start in Halletsville, Texas in 1947. It features more that 10,000 members and 1,250 sanctioned rodeos in 39 states, four Canadian provinces, and Australia. The Wrangler High School All-Star Team was created in 1998 to recognize more than 1,200 high school student athletes across the United States and Canada for their leadership qualities, academic performance and athletic achievements.
