This past weekend Lacey Schneyder earned MVP honours while helping the Pandas win the third annual Novas Volleyball Tournament at Erie Rivers High School in Milk River. The tournament started out well for the Pandas Friday night with a win against Pincher Creek 15-5, 25-15. Saturday in semifinal play, the Pandas needed three games to advance past Bow Island St. Mike’s 25-23, 20-25, 15-10 which brought them to the finals against the home team Novas. Magrath held off the host team 25-20, 26-24 in the championship final. Playing for the Panda Volleyball team this season are: Debbie Balderson, Amanda Loewer, Kerry Chipman, Jillene Hudson, Bonnie Wilde, Kim Miller, Lauren Balderson, Elaine Woolf, Lacey Schneyder and Hayley Cook Their next game will be tomorrow night at Catholic Central High School in Lethbridge. They also have a tournament at LCI this weekend. The Zeniths escaped with a 25-23, 20-25, 25­21, 25-22 victory. In junior play, LCI earned a 25-18, 25-16, 14­25 decision against the Eagles. Magrath recovers for bantam victory Magrath Wolverines bounced back from a mid­week loss to dump Coaldale Golden Bears 41­13 in Southern Alberta Minor Football Association play Saturday afternoon. Cole Barnett led the way in the win, scoring a pair of touchdowns on runs of one and two yards, averaging seven yards a carry on the ground and sparking the defense with nine tackles. FOR SALEREYNAULD “RON” HAROLD BECK bom the 5th day of February, 1941 of Magrath, passed away suddenly in the Raymond Hospital on Saturday, October 5th, 2002 at the age of 61 years. Ron is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years Kathleen (West) Beck, as well as his 5 sons: Scott (Janice) of Whitecourt, Wes of Magrath, Bradley of Calgary, Ryan (Kim) of Magrath, and Gavin (Melanie) of Edmonton. In addition Ron is survived by 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Ethan, Cierra, Larissa, Gage, and Zachary; as well as his sister Carol (Ted) Sommerfeldt of Cardston and brother Jim (Brenda) of Hill Spring. Ron is predeceased by his mother, Anne (Fehr) Beck (1981), and father, Harold Beck (1994). Friends may meet the family at the Church on Wednesday, October 9th, 2002 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. or Thursday from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the Service. The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Magrath Stake Center, Magrath on Thursday, October 10th at 12:00 noon with Bishop Glenn Fletcher officiating. Interment in the. Cardston Cemetery. ROBERT GORDON (MITT) BLUMELL passed away peacefully at his home in Calgary on October 5th, 2002 at the age of 76. He leaves to mourn, his wife Mae, and his sister, Alice Davies and her two children. ‘Mitt’ was predeceased by his sister Jean, and brothers, Jasper, Emmerson, Russel, and Jim. At Gordon’s request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation handled by Fosters Garden Chapel, of Calgary. DOUGLAS NELSON passed away about 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8th, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada. John locked his keys in the car yesterday. We were really worried because it took him two hours to get me and your father out. Your sister had a baby this morning; but I haven't found out what it is yet so I don't know if you're an aunt or an uncle. The baby looks just like your brother... Three of your friends went off a bridge in a pick-up truck. Ralph was driving. He rolled down the window and swam to safety. Your other two friends were in back.
