Building Permit Regulations: It is important for all res­idents of the Town of Magrath to know that almost' all const­ruction or development in Magrath requires the owner to secure a building permit before they start. This permit- can be ob­tained at the Town Office after the application form has been filled out1 and all requirements are satisfied. The following activities do not require a building permit: a. concrete or asphalt driveways, sidewalks and patios (excluding roof), b. fences less than 6% feet- high. c. one portable tool shdd per lot, maxinami size of shed 10'xl2'. d. interior renovations that do not affect the existing use, appearance or exterior dimensions of the dwelling. Any building activity not listed above requires a permit. If in doubt please contact the Town Office. Sane important points to remember before you start building and before you apply for the permit are: 1. All construction must comply with the alberta Building Code and it is the owner's responsibility to Insure that it does. 2. All applications must include a site plan indicating the project location in relation to the lot property lines, a copy of the blueprints indicating the appearance of the building vhen completed. 3. All construction must comply with the yard setbacks as out­lined in the By-Law. These setbacks are: Front Yard - Minimum 25 ft-. Side Yard - Minimum 7.5 ft-. Rear Yard - MLninam 25 ft. A delicious pot luck supper was enjoyed foll­owing the game. Atom "B"s won the League Championship for the second year in a rqw. Coaches are Ted Holland and Barry Ovens. Magrath Pandas Girls Basketball, team came icme with the consolation title after taking art in the 3A Girls' Provincials in Calgary dur­ene weekend. They defeated St. Albert 61-46 to ■rake tte consolation. How To Win At Losing: If you've ever tried to lose weight you know’ how difficult and frustrating it can be. The solution seems simple enough - just go on a diet. Every month new diets appear that pro­mise miraculous weight loss in a short period of tine. They seem too good to be true and unfortunately they are. If you follow a 'quick fix' diet you will lose weight but the long range results are dismal. The body seems to have a mind of its own when -t comes to weight loss. Many experts now believe that your body 5 - tuned to a fixed weight1 or 'set point' and will, resist any loss below that level. For example, suppose your set point is 175 lbs. and you want to w^igh 165 lbs. Your body will try to keep that’ extra ten lbs. by slowing down your metabolism. That means you need fewer calories to stay at the same weight. The set point theory may help explain why many dieters fail miserably in their reducing efforts. There is a growing recognit­ion that overweight people need more than a diet1. They need a change in lifestyle which includes exercise. ■. Physical activity is now known to be a vital part of success­ful, long term weight control. The body's metabolic rate will in­crease for up to 15 hours after a vigorous workout. Exercise bu?’5-4- muscle which burns more calories than fat. Contrary to what many­people believe, exercise decreases appetite. Besides promoting weight loss, exercise Improves health. It lowers the blood press­ure, lowers blood fat and blood sugar levels and above all, makes you feel good. Successful, weight loss need not involve crash dieting or rigid self-denial. A small decrease in food intake along with a small increase in exercise can add up to considerable weight loss.
