ALBERTACouncillors Comments Your county council recently went on a ' retreat' to the Kananaskis country. [We stayed in one of the cheaper hotels ] The purpose of this was to be able to spend several days discussing the administraital future of this county We had a facilitator to direct the discussions and keep us on the wrong right track However some good may come from the whole exercise in the next month or so. The continued Provincial funding cuts for road programs are really hard to deal with Like most municipal governments we followed the Prov.govt directions built and paved secondary roads. Now we have to use limited funding to keep these roads up to par. These roads are very nice to have and to drive on but take money away from other road building projects.Getting the Western Feed Lot road east of Mossleigh funded that the divisevecation fund and some funding from the Feed Lot freed up some money for our 1997 road building program. There is a lot of heated arguments lately over the roads that need to be built in conjunction with the Little Bow Dam. I think all the roads that need to be built should be done so by the Province. A recent letter in the Advocate did not improve the poor relations between the provincial people associated with the Dam and the County council. To those of you who travel north from Milo any where along 842 and the Ferry road you should watch for horses. Present were Mayor Bath. Councillor Vooys. Councillor Umscheid Murucioal Administrator Colleen Deitz snd Don Holmes, Milo Community School Advisory Council. Village property owners of Lot 13 & 14 of Block 1 Plan 2930 DM are requesting reclassification of this property back to residential. MOVED by Councillor Umscheid, that this property be reclassified to residential effective the 1997 Tax Year. Provided that there is no Business front at this property. CARRIED. Councillor Vooys reported that at the last meeting of the County of Vulcan Solid Waste Authority, that they have increased the Village Requisition for 1997 to $4,200. This is an increase of $11.00 per person in the Village. Council discussed the benefit that the Village has from belonging to the Solid Waste Authority. We have not yet received the Transfer Station that we were to get. If we do not received this transfer station, we may have to haul the garbage to the new landfill site, and our garbage truck might not withstand the miles, therefore we could possibly be looking at upgrading our garbage truck. Municipal Administrator is to check into alternatives, contact Arrowwood and find out their costs for garbage disposal etc. Council agreed that they were opposed to the location of the landfill site that is being appealed on October 24 at 9:30 a.m. Mr. Don Holmes, on behalf of the Milo Community School Advisory Council, advised Council that it had been brought to their attention that the playground zones in the Village are not being observed. The Advisory Council is willing to work with the Village on an awareness campaign. Discussion followed on the possibility of having the R.C.MP. patrol these areas once in awhile. Discussed the fact that these signs have been up for 3 years of more. An awareness ad will be put in the Milo Canopener. A Playground zone is in effect from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sun set very day of the year. Mayor Bath advised that she has met with Ron Marks, Carol Robertson and Barry Monner regarding the fence being moved from the north side to the south side of the Bike Path. We are now awaiting the sign agreement with these parties. MOVED by Councillor Umscheid that the resolution for the Water Policy on September 18 be changed as follows: Water Hook Ups outside of the Village of Milo. Anyone who wishes to hookup to the Village of Milo’s water, who resides outside of the Village limits, will pay a hookup fee of $500.00. A water meter must be installed, anyone who is already connected must have a water meter installed and operating by December 31, 1996. Charges will be as follows: for the first 3700 gallons per month from November to April (winter Months) and the first 6500 gallons per month from May to October (summer months)there will be a minimum charge of $20.00 per month for residential and $22.50 per month for commercial, and for those connected to the Village Sewer System a flat charge of $11.00 per month. for any amount higher there will be a charge of $.01 (one cent) per gallon. Bills will be sent out every two months commencing February 1, 1997. CARRIED. The Water and Sewer Billings will that go out every two months will not be changed due to accounting requirements for year end. Mayor Bath advised that Harold Dewitt has surveyed the West Entrance and has tiled the final documents so that we can settle this matter. MOVED by Mayor Bath that the Village Garbage Truck can be requested for by a Village rate payer at a charge of S5.00 per load. The Garbage Truck can only be driven by Village Councillors and the Town Manager. CARRIED. MOVED by Mayor Bath that the Truck Fill Water price be increased to one (1) cent per gallon effective February 1, 1997. CARRIED. Councillor Vooys will check with the contractors, that are tearing down the Pioneer Elevator, to see if they can dig the drainage ditch on the east side of Railway Avenue. ihe next Council Meeting for the Village of Milo was set for November 18. 1996 at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Office. Although our entries were down to seven teams we all had a great time. Thanks to Barb Godkin, Carol Robertson and Christine Bushell for planning the weekend. The winners of the bonspiel were: A Event - Doug Bushell, Colleen Bartsch, Mike Hingley and Craig Robertson B Event - Barb Godkin, Ginger Hegland, John Beckner, Ryan Way Thanks to Doug and Sharleen Bushell for organizing the Grey Cup Raffle. Juniors The Juniors have had a busy season already this year. We have three competitive teams competing in the Junior Superleague in Calgary every Sunday morning at 9 o'clock. The teams are placed in a level that they are qualified for. Every three weeks they are reseated and depending on how they have done they could move up or down. This system ensures that they are always competing at their level. These three teams consist of: Jen Bartsch, Tammy Bushell, Erin Monner & Morgan McMorris - coached by Doug Bushell. Josh Umscheid, Dale Johnson (Carseland), Dennis Wong & Chris Page(Carseland) coached by Lome Umscheid. Shaun Umscheid, Amanda Bushell, Bill Godkin & Amy Hingley coached by Colleen Bartsch. The Milo Junior Program has begun in Milo and is held every Thursday night after school. Joanne Monner is in charge of this program and is helped by the girls' compe­titive team. The Junior Bonspiel will be held the third week in January. If you are interested in watching exciting competitive curling come to the rink on Dec. 7th & 8th for the Junior Zone Playdowns. Curlers are coming from Medicine Hat, Coaldale, Lethbridge, Fort MaCleod, Brooks, Bassano and the local towns surrounding Milo.
