Between 1914 and the late 1960s, the Champion Fibre Company published an internal newsletter, called The Log, to share news about the Canton mill, the community, and its employees. Acknowledging your letter of l\Iarch 16, the machine now being installed by The Champion Fibre Company) Canton, N. C., is the largest machine in the wodd of what ·we classify "book" type for manufacturing the finer gl~ades of pape1 .. other than ne\vs, board, Kraft and tissue. The installation being made under present conditions has naturally created a great deal of interest among the trade, and is a story in itse]f having to do \\ith the disruption of the dome.stic pulp market due to foreign imports and shipments East from the Pacific Coast. As to the machine itself, it is hardly necessary to mention that in line with the 'veil-known policy of the Champion organization, it was specified of the most modern type with all the latest improvements equipped with anti-friction bearings throughout. The fourdri­nier part is arranged for a wire 24211 wide, &5 ft. long, with 36" diameter cantilever type suction couch and re­movable and high speed shake devices, the press part is arranged with 3 main presses (no suction press) and a set of smoothing rolls; the dry part comprises 40- 60" dian1eter paper dryers with the "Pusey Jones'' totally enclosed small diameter gearings; there are 2 .. 5 • • FIRST RUN OF PAPER ON 1\E\V 242 INCH P.
