Ageismo nas Organizações: Questões para Debate

The objective of the theoretical essay is to discuss the phenomenon of ageism in the organizational environment and its influences on the aging process. This is a relevant thematic due to the process of aging of the world population, and the negative representations of this process. The paper presents definitions about the aging process, assuming that it is singular and multifaceted. It also discusses the importance of labor and its identity, social and personal influences for the elderly people, as well as presents the phenomenon of ageism, a term used for any and all prejudice and discrimination that involves the age factor. It is concluded that there is a need to combat and modify the way the elderly people is seen in the organizational environment.O objetivo do ensaio teórico é discutir o fenômeno ageismo no ambiente organizacional e suas influências no processo do envelhecimento. Trata-se de uma temática relevante, em função do processo de envelhecimento da população mundial e das representações negativas de tal processo. O artigo traz definições sobre o processo do envelhecimento, partindo do princípio que este é de cunho singular e multifacetado. Em seguida, discute a importância do trabalho e suas influências identitárias, sociais e pessoais para o sujeito idoso, assim como discute o fenômeno ageismo, termo utilizado para todo e qualquer preconceito e discriminação que envolva o fator idade. Conclui-se que existe a necessidade de combater e modificar o modo que o sujeito idoso é visto no ambiente organizacional
