Richard Brown was born April 9, 1919 in Logan, Ohio. In 1947, he received his BS in History from Ohio State University. Mr. Brown graduated with a M.A. from Colgate University in 1948. In 1951, he was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. He taught at Colgate University and the University of Wisconsin before coming to Buffalo. Dr. Brown joined the faculty of the State University College at Buffalo in 1952. In 1963, was appointed the chairman of the Social Studies Department. He served as chairman until 1967. In 1977, was named Distinguished Service Professor. Dr. Brown wrote a number of articles, books, and pamphlets. He was a member of many college committees.
