The current Pharmaceutical scenario focuses on the development of sustained drug delivery systems to achieve required therapeutic concentration with less amount of dose. Several approaches are currently utilized in the prolongation of the gastric residence time including floating drug delivery systems, swelling and expending system, polymeric bio-adhesive systems, high density systems, modified-shape systems and other delayed gastric emptying devices.
