Several substantially different heavy mineral assemblages are distinguished among sources of Tertiary and Quaternary deposits in wider surroundings of the Brno City. Evaluation of both older and recently collected samples has brought some new unusual assemblages. The earlier defined typical assemblages of the Rudice member (kyanite, staurolite, tourmaline, rutile) of Ottnangian sediments (higher share of staurolite), Badenian and generally Visean sediments (both high share of garnets) and Quaternary loess (amphibole, garnet) was completed with a peculiar zircon-tourmaline suite coming most probably from psammitic intercalations in Devonian limestones.
