Sandy gravels recognised within the artificial outcrop in the area of Šilingrovo square in the centre of Brno city were interpreted as Quaternary fluvial deposits. Provenance analysis (petrography of pebbles, transparent heavy minerals) reveals position of the source rocks both in the nearest geological units and also generally N–NW of the today´s city area. Relation of studied deposits to the system of Svitava and Svratka river terraces is not clear.Sandy gravels recognised within the artificial outcrop in the area of Šilingrovo square in the centre of Brno city were interpreted as Quaternary fluvial deposits.
