It can be seen that the beanie is from class 1965, but when the photograph was taken is unsure.In a tradition that started in the early 1920s and continues to today, entering students to Springfield College wear beanies when they first arrive. Originally students were required to wear their beanies all year, only to be removed on Stepping Up Day in the spring when they officially moved up from freshman status.
