This photograph is of members of Springfield College's 1976-1977 field hockey team playing a game. One girl is hitting the ball with her stick while another teammate is running up the field.The team had a record of 13-3 during that season, went on to win the EAIAW championship and then continued to nationals in which they lost after two games. Springfield outscored their opponenets 46 to 6 in the games prior to nationals. The Springfield College Field Hockey program started in the 1950s as an intramural sport. The early days consisted of few practices and contests and gradually grew into the intercollegiate sport it is today.
