Charging EV using PV Panel with DC-DC Converter

The idea is based around using a photovoltaic panel, commonly known as a solar panel or PV panel, to charge an electric vehicle battery. Electric vehicles use are still not very prominent in the U.S. and part, if not most, of the reason is the lack of availability to charge the electric vehicle’s battery for owners. This is a serious issue because the range of the average electric vehicle is approximately 100 miles. Some more expensive vehicles, such as the tesla, can reach about 250-300 miles. However, due to the short distance one can travel in a single charge and most of that travelling is most likely due to coming back and forth from work, a practical solution would be to have a charging station located at one’s work place. Using multiples solar panels, a power grid can be created to charge multiple electric vehicles at one time. When plugged into the grid, the electric car would charge until complete. Since one is usually at work around 8 hours, the battery would overcharge unless it is disconnected from the source. As a result, the owner would need to disconnect the charger manually. However, they may be unwilling to leave work to go outside and do this, and as a result, a charge controller will be used to automatically stop the battery charging once it is fully charged. In addition, to keep things more efficient, when there is available power that is not being consumed by the EVs, that power will be stored within a storage bank that can then be used later for charging cars if there is not a sufficient amount of sunlight. The power from a solar panel alone is not sufficient to charge the EV battery, so the project will be centered on the design and implementation of a boosting DC-DC converter to achieve the required power to charge the electric vehicle
