PV TO EV

The PV to EV Power Converter Project was assigned through the Craig M. Berge Engineering Design Program by the team’s sponsor, Tucson Electric Power. This project was tasked with creating a photovoltaic to electric vehicle power converter system, that is able to accept the electricity from solar panels and transfer that energy to charge an electric car. The system was designed to be independent of any connections to the electrical grid, and free of any batteries within the system. The importance of this project was to create a solution for the increasing demand of electric vehicles, and the greater need of reliable renewable energy. With this system, easier access to renewable solar energy would be more accessible to different use cases. This system could be seen in the use of remote areas without access to the electrical grid, such as national parks, or in high traffic areas where a stop and go charging system could be put into place, such as a busy parking lot. With this system, solar energy will become more accessible and will help mitigate the increasing demand of clean, renewable energy as well as accessibility to more electric vehicle charging stations
