Sparta, Rome, and the Achaean League (181-146 BC). In 182 BC, the strategos Lycortas negotiated, with the Lacedemonian leader Chairon, the reincorporation of Sparta within the Achaean League. Within the next years, Hyperbatos and Callicrates eliminated Chairon politically and restored all Lacedemonian exiles to their rights as citizens (as the Romans had long advocated).
