Prevalência de aleitamento materno em crianças de 6 meses a 2 anos de idade atendidas em um hospital infantil

The present study aimed to verify the prevalence of breastfeeding in a private hospital in Teresina-PI. This is a crosssectional and descriptive study with a quantitative approach. It occurred through the application of a form with 90 participants. It was found that mothers who had normal birth were able to breastfeed their child in the first half hour of life. The study pointed to an expressive percentage of women who did not have guidelines on breastfeeding during pregnancy. The act of breastfeeding up to 6 months of age was not practiced significantly and the prevalence of breastfeeding in the first half hour of life obtained a low percentage. It is known that complications, difficulties and beliefs are part of the daily life of those who breastfeed and during the research a higher prevalence of weaning was observed before six monthsO presente estudo objetivou verificar a prevalência do aleitamento materno em um hospital infantil em Teresina-PI. Trata-se de um estudo transversal e descritivo com abordagem quantitativa. Ocorreu por meio da aplicação de um formulário realizado com 90 participantes. Constatou-se que as mães que tiverem parto normal conseguiram amamentar seu filho na primeira meia hora de vida. O estudo apontou um percentual expressivo de mulheres que não tiveram orientações sobre aleitamento materno durante a gestação. O ato de amamentação até 6 meses de idade não foi praticado de forma significativa e a prevalência de amamentação na primeira meia hora de vida obteve um baixo percentual. Sabe-se que complicações, dificuldades e crenças fazem parte do cotidiano de quem amamenta e durante a pesquisa foi observada uma maior prevalência de desmame antes dos seis meses.
