This study aimed to verify the knowledge regarding breastfeeding of infants treated in the maternity ward of a public hospital in the city of Botucatu, SP. We interviewed 72 women aged 14-42 years old, living in the Botucatu city or in neighboring cities. Although all participants had done the pre-natal examination, 67.31% had not yet received any information about breastfeeding, 32.69% intended to breastfeed only up to six months, and 19.23% by the age recommended by the WHO (World Health Organization Health). The WHO recommends it up to the age of two years or more. In spite of a high lack of knowledge about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and colostrum, 100% said they intended to breastfeed the child. The data found in this stu...
