In the tradition of Western thought, the question 'What is art?� has played a central though enigmatic role in the field of philosophical thought. So many attempts at an answer and so many objections have been offered, that today they seem to have been efforts without direction or standing in the real art world. This text approaches the plausibility of assuming the question 'What is art?� as a philosophical problem.
