Pensando a paz entre as guerras: o lugar do ensino de história nas relações exteriores

In the early 20th century, especially after the First World War, historicians and educators wondered about the influence that history teaching might have on friendship and hostilities among nations. The so-called �abuses� of history �reflected in his teaching for children and youth� began to be debated in Europe (mainly in French, Germany and Spain), and the U. S., reaching several international organizations (seculars and religious) including from teachers� unions to the League of Nations. The revision of school curricula and textbooks was the focus of this discussion. In South America, this initiative was leaded by Brazil and Argentina that signed in 1933 the �Agreement between Brazil and Argentina for the Revision of Texts for Teaching the History and Geography�. This paper investigates the political and educational interests �in the international context� provided that the signing of the Agreement, and consider the actions of governments, politicians, intellectuals and tea-chers in order to prevent the excitation against any nation of America.No início do século XX, principalmente após a 1ª Guerra Mundial, historiadores e educadores passaram a se perguntar sobre a influência que o ensino de História poderia ter nas afinidades e hostilidades entre povos e nações, para além da sua já considerada função cívica. Os chamados �abusos� da História �refletidos em seu ensino para a infância e para a juventude� passaram a ser debatidos na Europa (especialmente França, Alemanha e Espanha) e nos EUA, alcançando diversas organizações internacionais (leigas e religiosas), incluindo desde sindicatos de professores até a Liga das Nações. A revisão dos programas escolares e de livros didáticos esteve no centro dessa discussão. Na América do Sul, essa iniciativa coube aos governos do Brasil e da Argentina que, representados por seus ministros das Relações Exteriores, assinaram, em 1933, um �Convênio entre o Brasil e a República Argentina para a Revisão dos Textos de Ensino de História e Geographia�. Neste artigo, investigamos os interesses políticos e educacionais �inseridos no contexto internacional� que proporcionaram a assinatura do Convênio, e consideramos a atuação conjunta de governos, de políticos e de intelectuais-professores na intenção de prevenir a excitação �no ânimo desprevenido da juventude a adversão a qualquer povo americano�
