Coastal Management Strategy and Planning Analysis: Hudson County, New Jersey

This report presents Hudson County's analysis of its waterfront development needs and a management scheme for achieving those needs. Recommendations for future action are: each community should review its own zoning ordinances in relation to the proposed strategy; prosperous industrial areas should be preserved and provided with areas for expansion and other, less viable areas should be rezoned for recreation and other appropriate uses; the NJDEP should adopt an energy policy consolidating future energy facilities; all state and local controls regulating uses along the coast should remain intact within their jurisdiction; establish a Governor's Advisory Committee; and new industrial development on the waterfront should employ 25-30 persons per acre. Other contents of the report include: county character; state-local consistency of municipal master plans, zoning ordinances, and coastal management program; the Coastal Management Strategy for Hudson County; and the public experience.This report was prepared under terms of contract to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Coastal Zone Management, with financial assistance under the provisions of Section 305 of P.L. 92-583, Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972.
