ABSTRACT ZULFA PRIMA WAHYUNINGRUM, D0213107, INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION AMONG STUDENTS (Study of Intercultural Communication Process of Lampung Student at Sebelas Maret University Surakarta), Thesis of Communication Department, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta, 2017. Communication is very important and fundamental for everyone. Communication is used in everyday activities. Basically human beings need other creatures to survive because it is natural law of human like that. So, in other words it can not be denied again that humans need communication to survive. Communication can be done anywhere and anytime with great ease. People of different faiths, races, tribes, and regions can communicate. We live in an Indonesian country where this plural country has so many ethnic or ethnic races. Of the many ethnicities this way of communication is different. Because the cultural background is different. This is what experienced by the resident of Lampung origin of Lampung in their new environment namely UNS. Where he should be able to adapt to his new surroundings. Of course not easy because in the communication process they do must have obstacles. This study aims to find out how the communication process between the cultures of students from Lampung origin at the University of Sebelas Maret Surakarta and how the barriers intercultural communication experienced by them. Students of immigrants will experience the process of intercultural communication such as the difference percepi between communicator and communicant in conveying the message, personal style of a person in conveying messages such as different accents and intonations. This will be accompanied by obstacles in the form of perception, emotion, and non-verbal. Even the barriers of language will make a difference in meaning. So it is important for migrant students to know the process of intercultural communication and its obstacles in order to establish a relationship with the new culture. In addition, this research uses qualitative research methods with in-depth interviews and literature review as a data retrieval technique. And, using interactive analysis in analyzing data.
