ABSTRACTS YHOGA RIZKY KRISTANTO, D1214080, COMMUNICATION SCIENCE, CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION OF FOREIGN STUDENT (tendencies of intercultural communication among foreign students in Surakarta) Pluralism is a reality that occurs in human life in Indonesia. Especially in this globalization era, social life in Indonesia, intercultural encounter becomes something almost inevitable. A lot of foreigners arriving in Indonesia, making Indonesia the greater diversity. Intercultural communication be required because of cultural differences, and people from different cultures will have different ways to interact with other people. But the cultural differences are expected not an inhibiting factor in the process of interaction on different cultures. Many things need to be considered to communicating and interacting in a different cultures, it is the tendency of some way to adapt, language, stereotypes, and conflict. Intercultural communication competence is one important aspect in the process of adaptation. The successful of adaptation depending on how the functional of intercultural communication competence and accommodation through communication strategies that can lead to effective intercultural communication; stereotypes, ethnocentrism, withdrawal, abandonment, and other negative behaviors. This study shows how the tendencies of cross-cultural communication developed among foreign students who are studying or living in Surakarta with locals. This study uses qualitative descriptive compiled by observation and then make a list of questions for in-depth interviews with ten informants, namely foreign students who are studying or living in the city of Surakarta. *Keywords: qualitative descriptive, cross-cultural communication, adaptation, language, stereotypes, discrimination, conflict
