Campylobacter bacteria are Gram negative spirally-curved rods and are currently classified in 31 species and 11 subspecies. Campylobacter spp. are widely known as foodborne pathogens and the thermophilic species Campylobacter jejuni (C. jejuni) and C. coli are most frequently isolated from human patients.
