The study of charged particle capture reactions is of major importance for the understanding of the production of p nuclei and p process nucleosynthesis. The term ‘p nuclei’ refers to 35 stable nuclei, lying on the proton rich side of the valley of stability, from ⁷⁴Se to ¹⁹⁶Hg. All stellar nucleosynthesis models developed so far, fail to satisfactorily reproduce the p-nuclei abundances. In order to perform such abundance calculations one has to take into account the cross sections of more than 20000 nuclear reactions which involve almost 2000 nuclei.
