Libraries, Librarianship and Library Education in the Czech Republic

This paper describes the historical and current aspects of libraries, the field of librarianship and the development of library education in the Czech Republic. It discusses the effect of the country's history on the field of Czech library science. This paper examines the influence of the communist government and the state of libraries and librarianship since 1989, when the country gained its freedom and set up an independent state. This analysis also includes three interviews with a library director, the head of a library education department, and a library and information science student in the Czech Republic. These interviews are used as primary resources to supplement the secondary sources that are available
