The bachelor thesis is focused on a development of libraries and librarianship. Specifically, on the historical development in the Czech lands. The first part briefly describes the development of libraries and librarianship in historical periods. The second part mentions important individuals in the field of librarianship and the development of librarianship as a profession. The third part focuses on specific types of libraries and historically significant libraries. Based on selected sources, there are mentioned palace libraries, burgher libraries or monastery libraries and their peculiarities
