Hintergrund: Eine Lungentransplantation gilt als die letzte therapeutische Maßnahme bei unheilbaren, im Endstadium befindlichen Lungenerkrankungen von Kindern und Erwachsenen. Besonders im ersten Jahr nach der Lungentransplantation kommt es häufig zur Abstoßung des Transplantats. Mithilfe von transbronchialen Biopsien und bronchoalveolärer Lavage (BAL) können Abstoßungen und Infektionen diagnostiziert werden. Durch die Gewinnung der BAL besteht außerdem die Möglichkeit, Zytokinkonzentrationen aus der Lunge zu bestimmen. Änderungen in den Zytokinkonzentrationen wurden in Studien als diagnostische Möglichkeit gesehen, um Transplantatabstoßungen ohne die sonst notwendige Biopsien festzustellen.
