Urbanization processes are ongoing. Some aspects of urban life such as a sedentary lifestyle, the risk of traffic incidents, high levels of air pollution, noise and heat, and a lack of green spaces can have detrimental effects on our health and well-being. Despite consensus that these exposures related to urban and transport planning affect our health, there is little quantification of these health risk factors in the urban context. Quantitative health impact assessment (HIA) can provide numeric indices of health risk factors and can inform the health benefit-risk tradeoff of public policies.
