This article discusses the transformation of English into the lingua franca of science, in an attempt to understand why a common language has come to hold such sway. The central idea is that what is at issue is an ideology, perhaps even a mythology, an ancient scientific utopia, a way of masking – through objectivation – the language of power and the power of the dominant language.Ce texte discute la transformation de l’anglais en langue franche de la science.
