The united nations against the problematic of nuclear weapons: the non-proliferation treaty

RESUMEN: La Organización de las Naciones Unidas se ha interesado por la problemática nuclear, desde que en 1945 EE. UU. pusiera fin a la Segunda Guerra Mundial con la detonación de una bomba nuclear sobre las ciudades japonesas de Hiroshima y Nagasaki. El presente trabajo tiene por objeto el estudio de los distintos tratados y las resoluciones celebradas por la Asamblea General y el Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas tendentes a resolver esta problemática, poniendo un mayor énfasis en el análisis del contenido recogido en el Tratado de No Proliferación de las Armas Nucleares de 1968 que se articula sobre tres pilares: no proliferación de las armas nucleares, desarme nuclear y usos pacíficos de la energía nuclear. Las diferencias que el Tratado hace entre Estados nucleares y Estados no nucleares, la existencia de países nucleares no pertenecientes al Tratado, la ambición económica e industrial cada vez mayor, así como la desconfianza existente entre los distintos Estados, hacen difícil la consecución de los objetivos que este pretende alcanzar.ABSTRACT: The United Nations Organization has been interested in the problem of nuclear weapons, since 1945 when USA put an end to the Second World War with the detonation of a nuclear bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This publication aims to study the different treaties and resolutions adopted by the General Assembly and the Security Council of the United Nations tending to solve this problem, and deepening in the content included in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty of 1968, which is based on three pillars: non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, nuclear disarmament and peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The differences that the Treaty makes between nuclear and non-nuclear States, the existence of nuclear countries that are outside of the Treaty, the growing industrial and economic ambition, as well as the existing distrust between the different States, make it difficult to achieve the objectives to which the Treaty aspires.Grado en Derech
