Two pieces of research are presented : the first concerns a secondary school French class, the second, a remedial class for 7 year-olds and upwards (both in inner-city Paris, Priority Education Zones). In both cases, from a didactic viewpoint, we concern ourselves with setting up language learning situations based on the social practices identified in pupils from the inner-city.
