About the decay ob the oak : a reflexion on this species in the French forest. For a century now, the pedunculate oak has been affected by several agents of decay while the sessile oak has been spared. The comparative study of the sites concerned by the decay and of the « characters » of the two species, together with an analysis of both to-day's sylviculture and the past difficulties of the French forest, bring us to question their respective « natural » places in to-day's forest.
