Salluste, Bellum Catilinae : un texte tragique de l'historiographie ?

The pattern of « tragic historiography » cannot grasp the tragic elements of the Sallustian text : it has its foundation in the Aristotelian concept of tragedy. Now the Roman archaic tragedy departs from it by its focalisation on the characters at the expense of drama and by its interest in the « furious monster ». The actantial analysis of Bellum Canlinae shows that the elements of that Roman tragic are to be found in the historiographie text. The hypothesis of a tragic intertext of the historiography thus sketches itself out in the transformation of Catilina the character into a dominant figure - one intertext among others, which together constitute the historiographie discourse.Le modèle de l'« historiographie tragique » ne peut saisir les éléments tragiques du texte sallustéen : il se fonde dans le concept aristotélicien de la tragédie. Or la tragédie archaïque romaine s'en distingue par une focalisation sur les personnages au détriment de l'action et par son intérêt pour le « monstre furieux ». L'analyse actantielle du Bellum Catilinae montre que les éléments de ce tragique romain se retrouvent dans le texte historiographique. Ainsi, l'hypothèse d'un intertexte tragique de l'historiographie s'esquisse dans la transformation du personnage de Catilina en figure dominante du récit — un intertexte parmi d'autres qui, ensemble, constituent le discours historiographique.Spath Thomas.
