The pattern of « tragic historiography » cannot grasp the tragic elements of the Sallustian text : it has its foundation in the Aristotelian concept of tragedy. Now the Roman archaic tragedy departs from it by its focalisation on the characters at the expense of drama and by its interest in the « furious monster ». The actantial analysis of Bellum Canlinae shows that the elements of that Roman tragic are to be found in the historiographie text.
