Urban Development in Bavay in the Light of Recent Research. The traditional idea one has about urban development in Bavay is that of a two-tier growth, materialized by two different road networks, the older surrounding the forum, in the west, the earlier representing a more recent extension towards the east. Now, a re-examination of the data on which this assumption rested, together with recent discoveries, leads us to abandon this pattern of evolution and to propose a new approach. From the very time of its creation, during the last two decades B.C., the antique city was endowed with the regular network hitherto thought to be the more recent.
