Recherches archéologiques à Bavay, X-XI

The 1991 campaign in the north-east angle of the civil basilica of the Bavay forum enabled us to get a clearer understanding of the particulars of each of the three stages of the building (from now on called «yellow» or «pink» according to the colour of the mortar used in the stonework, and «tricoloured» with regard to the colour of the materials used in the latest stage) : the three buildings were built on more or less the same area, but there were notable differences in the arrangement (organization of the pillars of the central nave, depth of the eastern rooms) ; the third stage, left in an uncompleted state, must have taken into account very important alterations in the elevation of the building. On the other hand one proceeded to the re-clearing of the older excavations of the north-west part of the façade of the basilica (cellars of the annex of the former Hôtel du Faisan).La campagne 1991 dans l'angle nord-est de la basilique civile du forum de Bavay a permis de mieux discerner les particularités propres à chacun des trois états de l'édifice (désormais dits «jaune» ou «rose» d'après la couleur du mortier de la maçonnerie, puis «tricolore» d'après la couleur des matériaux de l'état récent) : les trois édifices ont eu, à peu de choses près, la même emprise au sol, mais avec des différences notables dans le plan (organisation des piliers de la nef centrale, profondeur des pièces orientales) ; le troisième état, d'ailleurs resté inachevé, a dû prévoir des modifications très importantes de l'élévation du bâtiment. D'autre part on a procédé au redégagement des fouilles anciennes de la partie nord-ouest de la façade de la basilique (caves de l'annexe de l'ancien Hôtel du Faisan).Het resultaat van de opgravingen in de noordoostelijke hoek van de burgerlijke basiliek op het forum te Bavay, is een betere kennis van de drie opeenvolgende bouwfazen (nu naar de huuidige kleur van de mortel geel, roos of driekleurig genaamd). De drie gebouwen staan op ongeveer hetzelfde grondstuk, maar hebben een verschillend plan (organisatie van de pijlers in de middenbeuk, diepte van de ruimten in het oosten). Het derde gebouw dat onvoltooid gebleven is, heeft waarschijlijk grote wijzigingen in de opstand meege- bracht. Men heeft verder de oude opgravingen van het noordwestelijke deel van de geven van de basiliek (de kelders van het vroegere Hôtel du Faisan) opniew blootgelegd.Hanoune Roger, Muller Arthur.
