The Chinese community in Cambodia is mentioned in documents dating back to the 13th century. The community went through a very stable development for seven centuries, under the Khmer rulers, without facing any major trouble. Its position was well established in the Khmer Empire and it was considered as essential to the common wealth. Then came the interference of foreign powers and ideologies, which eventually threw the community into two decades of misfortune - until the National Reconciliation Process, which started ten years ago, reversed the situation, likely for good.Vairon Lionel.
