The celebration of The National Day on July 14th 1880 in Angers and in the Maine-et-Loire, a catholic country which political directing is more favourable to monarchist regimes than to the Republic, was a difficulty. However, it's the occasion of showing that the local political reactions are henceforth centred on the national history in a general debate about the political facts, instead of being based on local traditions, especially the Revolution's events, which memory might have been amplified by the commemorative meaning of the festivity. It also shows that the weakening of the antirepublican tradition becomes obvious.
