A quarter century after the Second Council of Nicea, Nicephorus set himself the task of refuting the use by the Iconoclasts of citations from the obscure author Macarius Magnes. Nicephorus's pamphlet — apparently his first work against the Iconoclasts — provides a good example of the philological approach, if we may so call it, of the Iconoclast-Iconodule debate.L'auteur offre une nouvelle édition du De Magnete de Nicéphore de Constantinople en plaçant ce petit traité dans le contexte du début du Second Iconoclasme.
