Some Remarks on the Colophon of the Codex Parisinus Graecus 1115

According to its colophon, codex Parisinus Graecus 1115 (P) was written in the year 1276 by Leo Cinnamus, and was deposited in the Imperial Library at Constantinople. The archetype of Ρ is also described in the colophon as a manuscript found in the old Library of the Church of the Elder Rome. This archetype dated from 6267 A. M. (759 of the Byzantine Era). The contents of P, however, contradict both the dating of the manuscript itself and the dating of its archetype. Modern scholars have argued against the authenticity of these dates based on the presence of an Iconophile florilegium in ff. 235 v°-283 v° of P, and the identification of another florilegium in ff. 180 v°-220 v° as an anti-Latin one that deals with the Procession of the Holy Spirit (Filioque). The received opinion about these two florilegia is that the former should date after the Seventh Ecumenical Council (787 A. D.) and the latter some time in the mid-ninth century. In addition, an anti-Latin florilegium is difficult to have been copied for the library of the Unionist Emperor Michael VIII Palaeologus. In the present article evidence is offered that the Iconophile florilegium was compiled in the year 770 by the author of the Adversus Iconoclastas (P. G., 96, 1348-1361). Moreover we suggest that the anti-Latin florilegium is in fact a pro-Latin one and dates from the period of Maximus the Confessor. By using the Alexandrian Era for the calculation of the date of P's archetype we obtain the year 775, and, since possibly no text in Ρ is later than that year, we suggest thet the colophon of Ρ should be taken at face value.Selon son colophon, le Paris, gr. 1115 (P) fut écrit en 1276 par Leo Cinnamus, et fut déposé dans la bibliothèque impériale de Constantinople. Les savants modernes ont repoussé l'authenticité de ces dates à partir de la présence d'un florilège iconophile aux ff. 253 v°-283 v° de P, et du caractère anti-latin d'un autre florilège sur lefilioque aux ff. 180 v°-220 v°. Selon l'opinion reçue sur ces deux florilèges, le premier devrait être postérieur au septième concile œcuménique (787), et le second devrait dater du milieu du IXe siècle. En outre, un florilège anti-latin aurait pu difficilement être copié pour la bibliothèque de l'empereur Michel VIII Paléologue favorable à l'union. L'article démontre que le florilège iconophile fut compilé en 770 par l'auteur de l'Adversus Iconoclastas (P. G., 96, 1348-1361). Qui plus est, il suggère que le florilège considéré comme anti-latin est en fait pro-latin et date de la période de Maxime le Confesseur.
