Après Solidarité ?

After Solidarity ? Poland enters the new stage under the impact of growing tensions inside of the ruling elite. Her vulnerable position between Russia and Germany offers some great historical changes but at the same time imposes upon Poles a formidable challenge. The main weakness is in the Polish economy definitely inadequate to the needs of the nation and its growing aspirations. Solidarity was an ambitious attempt to mobilize the whole nation to a major reform. As long as the USSR remains a major conservative force in Eastern Europe there is not much chance for Poles to acquire a margin for manœuvre, but the positive example of the Hungarian economic reform is much tempting. The confrontations between the nation and the government only by themselves are not enough to improve the internal and external situation of Poland. A good will is much needed on both sides in order to make a real progress.La Pologne est entrée dans une nouvelle phase sous l'impact des tensions croissantes qui se manifestent au sein de l'élite au pouvoir. Sa position vulnérable entre l'Union Soviétique et l'Allemagne lui'offrait certaines chances historiques mais elle impose en même temps aux Polonais un véritable défi. Le principal problème vient de ce que l'économie polonaise est absolument inadaptée aux besoins de la nation et à ses aspirations croissantes. Solidarité a constitué une tentative ambitieuse de mobiliser l'ensemble de la nation en faveur d'une réforme économique. Tant que FU.R.S.S restera une force conservatrice en Europe de l'Est, les Polonais n'ont aucune chance d'acquérir une marge de manœuvre, mais l'exemple positif de la réforme économique hongroise est tentant. Les confrontations entre la nation et le gouvernement ne suffisent pas, à elles seules, à améliorer la situation intérieure et extérieure de la Pologne.
