Rural life and society - The second half of the century which is drawing to a close has seen rural life affected by the huge forces of change present in society as a whole. The traditionnal terms of the debate about what exactly is rural are now irrelevant. The new reality about rural life is that it has become urban. The 13.5 million people present in the countryside have, in the main, an urban way of life. In the recomposition of village society, the emergence of the middle classes is playing a decisive role. Since we can now speak of parity between the countryside and the city, there may be a possibility that social innovation in the XXI century could happen through these new actors on the rural stage.Le second demi-siècle qui s'achève a vu la formidable mutation intervenue dans la société s'étendre à son versant rural.
