1 640000 foreign workers in October 1976 - Given the important changes in immigration policy over the last five years and the worsening of the general employment situation, the lack of regular complete statistics concerning immigrant workers is particularly felt to day. The present study is an attempt to remedy this situation. The active foreign working force is estimated at 1,805 million workers in October, 1973 and at 1,640 million in October, 1976 (before and after the recession of 1975).
