The Great Caucasus is slightly inhabited: 1,250,000 inhabitants, a density about 12. There are many contrasted nationalities. The settlement is also contrasted, with unpoepled regions and other ones with an important population (Eastern Caucasus). The natural movement is decreasing but in different ways ; it is still fast in the East. The migrations concurred in the decrease of the population in some regions, in others they only evacuate surplus and the total population is still growing.
