Abstract. The Daghestan is the most dwelt region in the Caucasus. The rural mountain population, with a large ethnical diversity, keeps on growing because of an important natural increase, superior to the exodus towards the towns and the villages of the lowlands., The problem set by that mountain population is that of the rational use of natural and human resources in the mountain itself.Résumé. - Le Daghestan est la partie la plus peuplée du Caucase. La population rurale de montagne, d'une grande diversité ethnique, continue d'augmenter grâce à une forte croissance naturelle, supérieure à l'exode vers les villes et les villages du piémont.
