Abstract : The diversity of fauna in the Alps is not great but several alpine endemic and important species exist in the small areas of suitable habitat. These habitats are in many places in sites of development for tourism and recreation. Management of the flora and the habitats poses considerable problems to ensure preservation of the fauna.
